Debian 13 Trixie is the only supported operating system for this alpha. Compatibility is defined for this release's pinned configuration, not arbitrary plugin updates or newer Neovim builds.
Support matrix
| Environment | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Debian 13 Trixie + Neovim 0.10.4 | Supported alpha | The current release baseline. Debian's Neovim package is 0.10.4-8. |
| Debian 13 Docker test image | Test recipe | Runs Neovim and its tools inside Debian. See the build requirements and verification scope on Downloads. |
| Other Debian / Neovim versions | Outside scope | No compatibility claim for this alpha, including Neovim 0.11. |
| macOS and native Windows | Outside scope | The release uses Unix paths and tooling. No alpha support is declared. |

System requirements
| Requirement | Used for |
|---|---|
| Neovim 0.10.4 | Native LSP, native snippets, editor APIs, and terminal buffers. |
| Git, curl, ca-certificates | Plugin bootstrap and authenticated TLS downloads. |
| C compiler, make, tar, gzip, unzip | Parser compilation and external package extraction. |
fd-find (fdfind) | Preferred asynchronous file and directory scanner. GNU find and a native scanner are fallbacks. |
| UTF-8, true colour terminal | Theme colours, Braille dashboard drawing, and text rendering. |
| Nerd Font selected in the host terminal | The explorer's nf-fa-folder_open glyph. A container does not configure your host font. |
| Internet access during setup | Plugin, parser, and explicitly requested language-server downloads. |
Language compatibility
The release configures C/C++, Assembly, Java, Python, web languages, Rust, Go, Zig, and Nim. Each server has its own runtime and project requirements. A configured route does not guarantee compatibility with every compiler version, framework, or project layout.
Core workflow checks and a real clangd C/C++ session have passed on the baseline. Other integrations need broader testing with their real toolchains. Use the language requirements table before installing servers.
Terminal constraints
- Ctrl-Tab and Ctrl-number require the terminal to send distinct modified key sequences. Some terminal protocols send plain Tab or digits.
- Terminal shortcuts replace the corresponding shell bindings while Neovim has focus. In terminal input, Ctrl-H opens Harpoon and Ctrl-U opens undo history.
- Font size belongs to the host terminal. All Neovim splits share the same character grid.
- Shell buffers survive hidden panels, not the end of the Neovim process.
Planned beta platforms
| Target | Release status |
|---|---|
| Ubuntu 26 | Planned beta release; no alpha support. |
| Arch Linux | Planned beta release; no alpha support. |
| Fedora 45 | Planned beta release for the upcoming Fedora version; no alpha support. |
These are project plans, rather than available platform releases or a promised delivery date. Each target needs its own dependency checks and end-to-end validation.
Reporting a compatibility issue
Include the AutoVim release, operating system, output of nvim --version, terminal application, relevant language-server/toolchain versions, and reproducible steps. For server failures, include :LspInfo and the relevant :MasonLog output.
